How to sell more on Mercado Livre without selling at a loss: 9 levers ranked by margin
There are two ways to sell more on Mercado Livre. The first doesn't cost you margin: better listings, faster delivery, reputation, bundles, and pricing just below a threshold. The second costs you margin: discounts, coupons, and paid ads. Both work. The difference is that the first increases profit along with sales, while the second can increase sales as profit falls. That's why the order matters: use every free lever before paying for sales.
Here are nine levers, from the ones that best protect your margin to the most costly, and how each affects profit.
#Levers that don’t cost margin
1. Fix listings that get views but don't sell
A listing with lots of views and few sales is wasting the exposure it already gets. The first photo, title, product details, unanswered questions, and reviews are the usual suspects. Raising conversion from 2% to 3% on a listing with 2,000 views brings in 20 more sales a month at the same price. Get the full breakdown in conversion rate on Mercado Livre.
2. Answer questions quickly
An unanswered question can send a buyer to a competitor. Having someone answer during business hours, with ready-made replies to common questions, is often the cheapest way to improve conversion. Add recurring questions to the description and product details, too.
3. Faster delivery: Flex and Full
"Arrives today" and "Arrives tomorrow" can change a buyer's choice. Flex offers same-day delivery using your own logistics and, for products priced from R$ 19 to R$ 78,99, a bonus equal to the full shipping fee. Full offers fast delivery and a badge, with storage costs that only add up if stock sits unsold. See Flex shipping and Full.
4. Reputation and MercadoLíder
A green reputation gives you access to discounted shipping rates, tools, and greater buyer confidence. MercadoLíder gives you more visibility in search. Both depend on keeping complaints, cancellations, and late shipments low, which also directly saves you money. See MercadoLíder, Gold, and Platinum.
5. Bundles
A bundle increases the order value and spreads out shipping costs. Three units of a R$ 24,90 product in a R$ 69,90 bundle bring in almost twice the profit of three separate sales, and cost the buyer less. See bundles on Mercado Livre.
6. Price just below a threshold
A product priced at R$ 79,90 may sell more and earn more at R$ 78,99 because the shipping cost drops to a lower tier. Reviewing listings priced just above R$ 79 is one of the pricing changes that can increase both sales and margin. See free shipping on Mercado Livre: who pays.

7. Paid ads (Mercado Ads)
Paid ads bring views and sales, and charge per click. Ads only increase profit if the product's ROAS is above 1 ÷ margin before ads. With a 25% margin, the break-even ROAS is 4; with 15%, it's 6.7. Separate campaigns by margin range, and don't advertise products with a margin below 15%. See Mercado Livre Ads in 2026.
8. Promotions
Discounts increase sales, but come straight out of your margin: on a R$ 100 product with R$ 26,45 in profit, a 10% discount leaves R$ 20,25, and sales need to rise 31% just to break even. Run promotions on products with margins above 30%, for a short time, and check Mercado Livre's cost-sharing terms. See promotions on Mercado Livre.
9. Seller coupon
A seller coupon stacks with a promotion. A 10% promotion plus a 10% coupon on a R$ 100 product cuts profit from R$ 26,45 to R$ 11,79. Use coupons with a minimum purchase amount, and only on products that can handle the discount. See seller coupons.
#Peak sales periods: how to prepare without burning through your margin
Black Friday, Christmas, Mother's Day, and Children's Day bring a surge in sales—and some of the worst pricing decisions. Keep three things in mind:
- Stock up before, not during. If a product runs out during a peak, you lose the sale and your position. Buy based on sales from the same date last year, with a buffer, and send stock to Full ahead of time if you plan to use it.
- Choose campaign products based on margin. Only products with margins above 30% can handle both discounts and more ads. Lower-margin products can stay out of the campaign and still sell more, because traffic increases for everyone during peak periods.
- Calculate profit for the event beforehand, not afterward. Run the numbers for each product, including the discount, cost-sharing terms, and expected ROAS. After the event, review every order. That's when you'll spot the product that sold a lot but made nothing.
#Why the order matters
| Lever | Sales | Profit per sale |
|---|---|---|
| Listing, questions, delivery, reputation | increase | same or higher |
| Bundles and pricing below the threshold | increase | higher |
| Paid ads with ROAS above break-even | increase | lower, but positive |
| Promotions and coupons on high-margin products | increase | lower |
| Promotion and coupon on a low-margin product | increase | near zero or negative |
The first five increase total profit. The last two can increase revenue and reduce profit, depending on the product. I showed this effect in revenue is not profit.
In practice. A cell phone accessories store wanted to double sales, so it doubled its Mercado Ads budget. Sales rose 40%, but profit fell because half of the sponsored products had margins below the ROAS the campaign delivered. The next month, the store reversed course: it updated photos and product details for its 20 listings with the most visits, bundled its five cheapest products, and turned on Flex. Sales rose 25% with the ad budget back to its original level, and profit rose 30%.

Choosing the right lever means seeing sales and margin side by side for each listing. You can tell whether a listing needs more traffic, better conversion, or a different price—and how much profit each lever is worth before you pull it.
#Frequently asked questions
How can you increase sales on Mercado Livre?
Start with the levers that don't cost you margin: improve photos, titles, and product details; answer questions quickly; offer faster delivery (Flex or FULL); protect your reputation; and bundle products. Then use the levers that do cost margin, with the numbers worked out first: paid listings with a ROAS above the product's break-even point, and promotions on products with enough margin to cover the discount.
Does advertising on Mercado Ads increase sales?
It increases visits and usually sales. But every sale from an ad includes the cost of the click. An ad only increases profit if the product's ROAS is higher than 1 divided by its margin before advertising. With a 25% margin, ROAS needs to be above 4.
Does lowering the price increase sales on Mercado Livre?
Almost always, but the discount comes entirely out of your margin because the product cost and much of the shipping cost don't go down with it. On a product priced at R$ 100 with R$ 26,45 in profit, a 10% discount cuts profit to R$ 20,25, and sales need to rise 31% just to break even.
