Shopee shipping for sellers: who pays, how free shipping works, and when you may be charged

On Shopee, sellers don’t pay shipping separately. Since March 1, 2026, all sellers have been enrolled in the Free Shipping Program, and buyers receive shipping coupons paid for by Shopee, capped at R$ 20 for items up to R$ 79,99, R$ 30 for items from R$ 80 to R$ 199,99, and R$ 40 for items over R$ 200. You’re charged only in one case: when the registered weight or dimensions are lower than the actual ones. The difference is then deducted from your wallet, up to 90 days after delivery.

This is the biggest difference between the Shopee and Mercado Livre calculations, and it’s where many spreadsheets get both sides wrong: they include shipping costs that don’t exist on Shopee, or forget the shipping costs that do exist on Mercado Livre.

#How Shopee’s free shipping works for sellers

Participation is automatic and required. There’s no longer an option to opt out of the program. Buyers see free shipping as a coupon, with a limit based on the item’s price:

Item price Shipping coupon limit
up to R$ 79.99 R$ 20
R$ 80 to R$ 199,99 R$ 30
over R$ 200 R$ 40

There are also 50% off shipping coupons on orders over R$ 10. Shopee subsidizes all of this.

What matters to you is that under normal circumstances, no shipping charge is deducted from your payout. You receive the price minus the commission and the fixed fee for that price range. The commission already includes the transaction fee. See the full table in Shopee fees in 2026.

That’s why recording shipping as a separate expense on Shopee is a mistake. You count a cost you didn’t pay, think your margin is lower than it really is, and may remove a profitable product from your catalog. I showed how this works in Shopee: the money that hits your account can be misleading.

#When shipping becomes a charge: weight and size adjustments

The carrier measures and weighs the package. If its weight or dimensions are greater than those listed on the listing, Shopee charges the seller the difference in shipping costs.

  • The charge can appear up to 90 days after delivery.
  • It appears under Finances > Wallet balance > Adjustments tab.
  • You can dispute it within 12 months of delivery.

The danger is the delay. A listing with incorrect details can generate adjustments for weeks before they show up in your wallet. By then, there may be dozens of orders. Since the adjustment is separate from the order, it’s rarely assigned to the right product in your spreadsheet.

In practice. A home organization store had listed plastic storage bins using the product’s weight without packaging, and the dimensions of the closed box, even though it shipped assembled. Two months later, the Adjustments tab showed charges on almost every order for those items. Together, they cut about 4 percentage points off the margin of the store’s three best-selling products. Weighing and measuring the packed item as it ships fixed the issue for future sales, and the dispute recovered some of the charges already made.

#Shipping deadline: 1 business day

Shipping is free, but the deadline is short. Here’s the current official rule:

  • Tuesday through Friday, orders with payment confirmed by 1 p.m. must ship the same day. Orders confirmed after 1 p.m. must ship by the next business day.
  • Saturdays and holidays: ship by the next business day.
  • Orders paid for on Sunday or Monday can ship by Tuesday.
  • For Express Delivery, the cutoff is 11 a.m..

Sellers can’t request an extension. Extensions are granted automatically only in cases such as a system outage or a missed pickup with signed confirmation.

#What happens if you ship late

Late shipments and failure to ship result in penalty points, assigned every Monday and reset each quarter. At 3 points, the store enters a penalty tier:

Range Points Visibility Free shipping Fee (as of 06/2026)
1 3 to 5 −5% retained R$ 100
2 6 to 8 −10% suspended R$ 250
3 9 to 11 −20% suspended R$ 500
4 12 to 14 −30% suspended R$ 1.000
5 15 or more account frozen suspended R$ 1.500

Stores with less than R$ 2.500 in sales in the previous month are exempt from the monetary charge. Paying doesn’t reset your points.

Losing free shipping at the second tier is the most costly penalty: your listing has to compete without the coupon against competitors who have it. That’s when “free shipping” stops being free.

#How to get your package to Shopee

With Shopee Xpress, there are two main options: pickup at your address or drop-off at an agency or collection point, shown on a map in Seller Center. Other options include Direct Delivery, Express Delivery (Greater São Paulo), and Shopee Full. Your choice affects your workload and cutoff time, not the fee Shopee charges per sale.

#Shopee and Mercado Livre: how shipping shows up in your account

Shopee Mercado Livre
Who pays for free shipping Shopee, through coupons the seller, on orders from R$ 19
Shipping charge in the payout no, except for adjustments yes, shipping cost based on weight and tier
Weight affects the fee only if listed incorrectly yes, always
Standard shipping deadline 1 business day the same day or the next day

On Mercado Livre, shipping cost is part of the calculation for every sale. I explained the table in Mercado Livre shipping cost table for 2026. On Shopee, the charge is zero as long as your listing details are correct.

#Three ways to keep shipping from becoming a cost

  1. Enter the weight and dimensions of the packed item, including packaging, as it leaves your stock.
  2. Check the Adjustments tab every week and dispute any incorrect charges. The deadline is long, but it’s easy to forget what you shipped.
  3. Ship on time. The penalty costs you visibility, free shipping, and, since June 2026, money.

At Milewa, the margin on every Shopee order is calculated based on what actually landed in your account, with the commission and fixed fee shown separately, along with your cost and tax. When a product’s margin differs from what you calculated, the difference appears order by order, next to the listing that generated it.

#Frequently asked questions

Who pays for shipping on Shopee, the seller or the buyer?

In most cases, Shopee does. Since March 1, 2026, all sellers have been part of the Free Shipping Program, and buyers receive shipping coupons subsidized by Shopee, capped at R$ 20 for items up to R$ 79,99, R$ 30 for items from R$ 80 to R$ 199,99, and R$ 40 for items over R$ 200. No shipping charge is deducted from the seller’s payout, except when the registered weight or dimensions are lower than the actual ones.

What is Shopee’s shipping adjustment?

It’s a charge for the difference in shipping cost when the carrier measures the package and finds that its weight or dimensions are greater than those listed in the listing. The charge may appear up to 90 days after delivery under Finances, Wallet Balance, Adjustments. You can dispute it within 12 months of delivery.

How long do you have to ship Shopee orders?

Usually, 1 business day. Tuesday through Friday, orders paid by 1 p.m. must ship the same day; orders paid after 1 p.m. must ship by the next business day. Orders from Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and holidays follow their own rules, and the cutoff for Express Delivery is 11 a.m. Sellers can’t request an extension.
