When Mercado Livre releases your sales proceeds: release times, early payouts, and the cash tied up along the way
On Mercado Livre, sales money is released after delivery, and the timing depends on the shipping method and your reputation. Mercado Pago’s help page says 8 days for new products shipped with Mercado Livre Shipping (12 days for used products or sellers without a reputation). With your own shipping, MercadoLíder sellers get paid right away if they report the delivery and the buyer confirms it. With Flex, the money is available 2 days after delivery. The exact date for each sale appears in its details, and that’s the date to go by.
The timing matters less because of the day the money arrives and more because of how much is tied up along the way. A store that brings in R$ 60 mil a month may have more than R$ 20 mil in transit at any given time. Here’s how the rules work and how to calculate it.
#Release times with Mercado Livre Shipping
According to Mercado Pago’s help table, counted from the delivery date:
| Scenario | Release time |
|---|---|
| With a reputation, new product | 8 days |
| With a reputation, used product | 12 days |
| Without a reputation | 12 days |
Official sources differ: Seller Center notes say the money is available 48 hours after the carrier delivers the package, while the Flex page says 2 days. Neither page shows an update date. So when planning your cash flow, use the date shown in your account’s sale details. That’s the actual date for each order.
#Release times with your own shipping
When you ship outside Mercado Livre (and also when the buyer pays for shipping), release depends on you reporting the delivery and the buyer confirming it:
| Scenario | MercadoLíder | Other sellers |
|---|---|---|
| You reported delivery and the buyer confirmed | right away | 5 days |
| You reported delivery, but the buyer didn’t confirm | 11 days | 29 days |
| You didn’t report delivery | 28 days | 29 days |
The table shows the value of two things: always reporting delivery and being a MercadoLíder. If you’re not a MercadoLíder and don’t report delivery, your money stays tied up for almost a month. See the MercadoLíder, Gold, and Platinum requirements.
#What holds up your money
- Returns. When a return is started, the sale amount is held until the issue is resolved. I explained the process in Mercado Livre returns for sellers.
- Open claim. The disputed amount may be held until the issue is resolved.
- Delivery not reported for your own shipping, as shown in the table above.
#Early payouts: what it costs to get paid sooner
You can get pending money early, either right away or on a schedule. Mercado Livre deducts a percentage that you’ll see before confirming, but it doesn’t publish a fixed rate table.
To decide, compare the cost of an early payout with the sale’s margin. If your margin is 15% and you pay a few percentage points to get paid early, a significant part of your profit goes toward that fee. Getting paid early once in a while to take advantage of a good stock purchase may be worth it. Doing it every month to pay bills is a sign you’re short on working capital, and the cost becomes ongoing.
#The key calculation: how much money is tied up
Money from a sale stays “in transit” during shipping, delivery, and the release period. If that cycle takes 11 days on average (3 days to deliver and 8 days for release), the amount tied up is:
Money in transit ≈ monthly revenue ÷ 30 × days in the cycle
| Monthly revenue | Days in the cycle | Money in transit |
|---|---|---|
| R$ 20 mil | 11 | about R$ 7.300 |
| R$ 60 mil | 11 | about R$ 22.000 |
| R$ 150 mil | 11 | about R$ 55.000 |
This money is yours, but it’s not in your account yet. And keep in mind: what comes in after the funds are released isn’t profit. It’s the sale amount minus commission and shipping; the product cost, tax, listing fees, and fixed expenses still have to come out of it.
In practice. A sporting goods store doubled its sales in November and nearly ran out of money to restock in December. It was making a profit, but the money from Black Friday sales didn’t arrive until 10 to 15 days later, while the supplier required payment upfront. Getting an advance covered the month, but the cost ate up much of the campaign’s profit. The following year, the store negotiated payment terms with the supplier ahead of time and didn’t need an advance.
#How to use payment timelines to your advantage
- Confirm delivery for every order you ship yourself. It’s the difference between getting paid right away and waiting almost a month.
- Plan cash flow for peak dates around the funds release cycle, not the sale date.
- Negotiate payment terms with your supplier that match your payment cycle.
- Use advances only as a last resort, and compare the cost with your margin.
- Separate released funds from profit. Knowing the profit on each sale the day it happens helps you avoid spending money that still needs to cover stock and tax.

#Profit on the day of the sale, money later
Your Mercado Pago statement shows when the money arrives. It doesn’t show how much of it is profit. Milewa calculates the margin on every Mercado Livre order on the day of the sale, including the commission and shipping charged by the marketplace, your cost, and tax. When the money is released, you’ll already know how much is available and how much is already spoken for.
#Frequently asked questions
How long does Mercado Livre take to release money from a sale?
It depends on the shipping method and your reputation. Mercado Pago’s help center says that for orders shipped with Mercado Livre Envios, after delivery, funds are released in 8 days for new products with a reputation, 12 days for used products, and 12 days for sellers without a reputation. Seller Center notes say 48 hours or 2 days after delivery in some cases. The exact date for each sale appears in the sale details after the buyer receives the order.
When are funds released for orders shipped by the seller?
For MercadoLíder sellers: right away if you confirm delivery and the buyer confirms; in 11 days if you confirm delivery and the buyer doesn’t; in 28 days if you don’t confirm delivery. For sellers who aren’t MercadoLíder: 5, 29, and 29 days, respectively. The same rules apply when the buyer pays for shipping.
How much does it cost to get an advance on Mercado Livre?
Mercado Livre doesn’t publish a fixed percentage. When you request an advance, you’ll see the percentage deducted before you confirm. Compare this cost with the sale’s margin: getting advances regularly can eat up a large part of your profit.
